The Usekh Earrings carry the imprint of Nefertiti’s famous collar. This type of collar, called an usekh, was often worn by Egyptian royalty. Emeralds were said to be a gift of Thoth, the god of wisdom, symbolizing immortality, fertility and rebirth, even alleviating pain from childbirth.
The first emerald mine, Cleopatra’s Mine, was found in Ancient Egypt and named after the Pharaoh as emeralds were her favorite stone. These mines provided the stones for Cleopatra’s jewelry, in addition to adornments for her palace walls and gifts given as a sign of her wealth, power and royalty.
DETAILS: 0.75”, two natural 4mm emeralds, post back closure, available in sterling silver or 24K gold vermeil. Adornments are handmade, resulting in subtle differences and natural imperfections for an ancient feel.
