The Asp, or Egyptian serpent, symbol of divine royalty, deity, rebirth and creative life force in ancient Egypt. As legend has it, upon being defeated by her rival, Octavian, the Pharaoh Cleopatra requested an asp brought to her in a basket full of figs. As if in ritual, she slipped her hand into the basket, taking her own life with one venomous bite.
Cleopatra’s story is told further through The Last Pharaoh Necklace.
